Astrophysicist Donald Olson along with his research team at Texas State University are sort of forensic detectives in regards to great works of art. They figured out that the glowing circle depicted in Vincent Van Gogh’s painting White House in Night has to be Venus, for example. Most recently, they’ve been trying to identify where and if photographer Ansel Adams took a number of his most iconic pictures. It required all sorts of creative calculating to crack then mystery of Adams’s Denali and Wonder Lake, also as writer Cara Giaimo explores at the site Atlas Obscura.
