Amazon Prime Associates to Receive 10% off Most Whole Foods items Nationally Beginning this summer

(GeekWire photograph / Taylor Soper) Amazon is taking the next step in its integration using Whole Foods Market, verifying that it is going to provide 10 percent discounts on Whole Foods sale items and unique deals on top supermarket items to its over 100 million Amazon Prime members. The discount program is beginning in Florida this week and also will roll out nationwide this summer, the business said Tuesday night. The move comes less than a year after Amazon announced plans to acquire Austin-based Whole Foods for $13.7 billion. Replies for Prime members will work via the Whole Foods Market app. Amazon says Prime members will sign into the app with their Amazon account, scan the “Prime Code” within the app when they look at at Whole Foods. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos last month disclosed the amount of Prime members openly for the very first time, stating the program has over 100 million members worldwide. CNBC, which first reported on a demo of the Whole Foods/Prime discount program  before this month, cited an anonymous source that said 75 percent of Whole Foods shoppers are Prime members, but less than 20% of Prime members shop at Whole Foods. That translates into a major chance to boost Whole Foods’ company, if Amazon can use the new discounts to bring more folks into shops. Items eligible for extra Prime member discounts will be designated by special signs in Whole Foods stores. Amazon stated the available prices will rotate weekly, also gave these instances of Prime discounts available in Florida beginning this week. It’s the most recent effort by Amazon to create Whole Foods more affordable, attempting to drop the grocer’s “Whole Paycheck” reputation. Amazon cut costs on many items at Whole Foods upon completing the purchase this past year, as part of its wider push into real retail shops. Yet, studies showed that some costs later rose. Amazon started offering delivery from Whole Foods to Prime clients in selected markets before this year. It also provides 5% back on all Whole Foods purchases to clients together with the Amazon Prime credit card.   The business says it ultimately plans to create Amazon Prime the Whole Foods Market customer rewards program.
