Walmart sues its former Leading tax executive to Prevent her from joining retail rival Amazon

The suit, filed in Delaware’s Court of Chancery and first spotted by Bloomberg, alleges that Lisa Wadlin violated her employment agreement by agreeing to join Amazon. Wadlin had advised Walmart that she had been considering departing in January, but the revelation that she intended to go to Seattle to become a vice president of tax policy in Amazon did not come until after. Walmart asserts in its lawsuit that Wadlin — that played a critical part at Walmart’s $16 billion investment in Flipkart to an 80 percent stake in the India e-commerce company — owns knowledge of their organization’s strategic plans, such as acquisitions, and may relay that to Amazon. Walmart is requesting the court to bar Wadlin from disclosing sensitive information into Amazon. Amazon and Walmart have been duking it out to retail supremacy in the past couple of years. Walmart comes to the battle with an edge concerning brick-and-mortar footprint, while Amazon has got the online edge. Amazon famously acquired Whole Foods to improve its position at physical shops, while Walmart scooped up online retailers such as Jet.com and Bonobos to bolster its electronic offerings. Walmart was steadily adding more features to accommodate Amazon’s logistical art. Moves such as an expanding grocery delivery service along with a series of enormous Pickup Towers at Walmart stores are bridging the gap between physical and digital retail.
