Emirates Wants Amazon-Like Robots Sorting Out Airport Baggage

Emirates, the world’s largest long-haul carrier, can not comprehend why robots — like the ones utilized by Amazon.com Inc.’s warehouses — are not handling airport baggage yet.

Outlining what automation, artificial intelligence and big data can perform for aviation, the carrier’s President Tim Clark laid out a vision in which robots, without the requirement for human intervention, could ID bags, set them in bins that were prescribed and afterwards take them from their aircraft. His concept also has cutting back on what’s still the most laborious part of flying — the fundamental safety search.
