Amazon Web Services extends hybrid push, reveals new database management Support for VMware users

(GeekWire photo) Amazon Web Services and VMware expanded their hybrid-cloud venture Monday, announcing that AWS will ship a new variant of its cloud-based database-management software that has been created for VMware-managed information centres. AWS CEO Andy Jassy declared the new service, called Amazon RDS to get VMware, on stage at VMworld Monday along with VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger. AWS clients running many databases on its own public cloud may utilize an current product, Amazon RDS, to handle all the annoying maintenance tasks associated with running large databases, along with VMware clients will now be able to use a variant of that within their own data centres. It is another step in the developing venture between AWS and VMware, two businesses which were anything but friends in the early days of cloud computing. But several years ago, both companies came into the perception that while calculating computing is the way forward for modern tech infrastructure, on-premises data centres weren’t likely to vanish as quickly as it might have seemed. That venture began with VMware Cloud for AWS, that is currently available across the world a year after it had been officially launched, and has expanded to include regions in which the organizations are basically courting the exact same client: somebody who for whatever reason wants or needs to conduct their own data centres, but also wants to place workloads in the cloud in which it makes the most sense. Microsoft and Google are also rolling out products and services for this kind of client, however the AWS-VMware venture is a powerful pairing, joining the cloud industry leader with the company nearly interchangeable with server virtualization software. “The offering that we have collectively, VMware Cloud around AWS, is very appealing to clients, as it permits them to utilize the identical software they’ve already been using to manage their infrastructure for years, to be able to deploy it from AWS,” Jassy said on stage at Las Vegas. He said the amount of consumers which are using that specific hybrid product is doubling every quarter, however Gelsinger told analysts throughout VMware’s earnings call last week that he doesn’t expect to find a significant quantity of revenue related to the product until next year. Amazon RDS for VMware enables customers to handle databases such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, along with MariaDB. It is expected to become available in the”coming months,” the companies said, perhaps foreshadowing an announcement at AWS re:Invent in late November.
