Amazon doubling San Diego presence with Brand New office with room for 500 people

(Amazon Photo / / John Cameron) Amazon is currently expanding its presence in San Diego, setting up a new 85,000-square-foot office area with room for 500 individuals. Today, Amazon has approximately 200 workers in San Diego, and they have developed technologies that forces AmazonFresh, Prime Now, Amazon Web solutions, supply chain tech and prevents fraud on the platform. Amazon said San Diego teams are integral in the launch of Whole Foods grocery pickup and shipping via Prime Now and Alexa grocery purchasing features. An Amazon Game Studios group in San Diego is constructing a”new game world” that utilizes AWS and Twitch to connect gamers across the globe. San Diego is among 17 Amazon tech hubs around North America outside of its Seattle headquarters that collectively employ over 17,500 people. Amazon has spread its presence out in the past few decades, and is still searching for its second headquarters in which it will employ up to 50,000 individuals, though it nevertheless has 45,000-plus people in its own Seattle HQ. Amazon’s San Diego presence dates back to 2016 and is led by Nate Wiger, who has spent a long time with the organization and worked on matches, AWS and AmazonFresh. Wiger, who telecommuted from San Diego into Amazon’s Irvine office, convinced leadership to open up an office there with one of those famous”six-pagers,”a detailed memo read quietly initially of an internal meeting. He emphasized University of California San Diego’s powerful computer science application and a lower cost of living relative to other California cities.
