Amazon Reportedly Killed an AI Recruitment System Because It Couldn’t Stop the Tool out of Discriminating Against Girls

Machine learning, among the core techniques within the discipline of artificial intelligence, entails teaching automated systems to invent new ways of doing things, by feeding them reams of data about the topic available. Among the big fears here is that biases because info will just be reinforced in the AI systems–and Amazon seems to have just provided a superb illustration of that phenomenon.

According to a new Reuters report, Amazon spent years working on a system for automating the recruitment procedure. The idea was for this AI-powered system to be able to check at an assortment of resumes and name the best candidates. To achieve this, Amazon fed with the machine per decade’s worth of resumes from those applying for jobs in Amazon.
